The following new appointments have been made in the Surveyor General's Department since the preparation of the preceding year's Estimate:
Assistant Surveyor General appointed by Secretary of State, Despatch No. 92 of 14th July 1863.
Resident Engineer at Kowloon reported to Secretary of State in Despatch No. 104 of 10th May 1864.
Overseer of Works approved by Secretary of State, Despatch No. 115 of 4th August 1863.
Extra Assistant Clerk approved by Secretary of State, Despatch No. 42 of 29th June 1864.
Salary of Assistant Packet Agent at Shanghai sanctioned by Secretary of State in Despatch No. 199 of 12th October 1862.
Increase in Estimate for Gratuities to Ship Masters on conveyance of mails consequent on increased Correspondence.
This increase is principally a matter of account being a transfer to the Treasury Department of the sums required for collection of Village rates.
An increase of $2 to Signal Station sanctioned by Secretary of State in Despatch No. 100 of 12th July 1864; increased vote for allowances to Board of Examiners under Ordinance 17 of 1860 and increase to Contingencies for oil, repair of boats, etc.
Increased sum required for compensation to witnesses giving evidence in criminal cases.
